The Scare of Our Lives

Last night we had the scare of our lives.

A was choking.

We were eating dinner, meatball subs, and I was in the kitchen getting something when my husband jumped up.  A was choking.  He hit her on the back a few times but it didn't do anything.   I ran out of the kitchen and it was the most horrible sight I have ever seen.  Some how I remembered how to do the Heimlich and after a few tries we got it and she just started crying.

I can't get it out of my head what could have happened.  Last night at bedtime I gave her extra hugs and kisses.  Then about 10 o'clock I went back upstairs and laid down with her.  I just wanted to be with her.

She woke up this morning happy as a clam.

Me?  Not so much.  I wanted to keep her home and just hold her all day.

Our goal now is to look for a class at our Y for first aid and CPR.  It's been so long since I've taken the class.  Please do me a favor and do the same.

It was horrible....just horrible... I hope we never go thru that again and I hope you all don't either.

  1. Check with the EMS, too...I know they offer free classes, I believe. At least in VB they do.

Glad to know A is OK and that things are fine. I was in a similar predicament last year. Fortunately, it was here in the office and we're all CPR certified. Malia was choking on a Jolly Rancher (which I've done before...not fun). I felt so helpless.

  2. I'm so glad she was ok.

First aid and CPR is something that I think everyone needs, especially parents. I've had both since I was 16 and I encourage everyone else to do the same.

  3. Wow, how scary!!! I'm so glad she is ok. Veronica choked on a marshmallow once. I'll never forget the look of panic on her little face!

  4. Thank goodness! And thank you for posting on it so others will know to go to a course, too.

I've been to CPR courses almost annually for the last 30 years. Took my Mom with me the year our oldest was a baby. We also made sure all our babysitters were CPR trained, too, when ours were young.
