April Edition: Local Coffee Shop Review...Perked Up! Virginia Beach

Saturday morning my daughter bounded into my bed about 7:30 ready to start the day. My husband was due in later but I had the morning free to do homework...and review a coffee shop. I was determined to find one at the oceanfront and I know some others were waiting for me to find one too. I did a quick search on Google I found Perked Up! on 32nd & Pacific.

After a short drive down the interstate we were at the beach and found Perked Up!. It was a little hole in the wall place in a strip right behind The Heritage Store. There is seating outside but it was occupied so once inside we chose a table in the back corner. The owner was working and she was a wonderful woman, so sweet, I really enjoyed talking to her and finding out what her favorite coffee was. From her recommendation I had the Peru brewed coffee. I couldn’t resist the temptation of the quiches staring at me from the cooler so I also ordered a slice of the spinach sun-dried tomato for myself and a lemon poppy seed muffin for A.

The atmosphere at Perked UP! was perfect, it was a quaint beach café and I could see myself relaxing there while my family played on the beach a block away. Even though it is small, it’s what you would expect from a hidden coffee shop near the oceanfront. The owner knew the name of all the regulars who visited while we were there and doted on my daughter which made her day. The coffee was delicious. Perfectly brewed and tasted wonderful. I was even able to have my raw sugar in it, a great (and unexpected) plus! The quiche was amazing and the muffin was "ooooohhhhh goood...."

The downside? no wifi. This made it inconvenient for me as I needed to post my homework for my class. I wasn't expecting this and was a bit shocked. However I must say it works for this place. I wouldn't go back to do homework but I would go back relax and get away from my computer as well as for the peace and quiet.

Atmosphere: Quaint little cafe, cozy, perfect for a quiet coffee break.
Coffee: Delicious!
WiFi: None :(
