March Edition Part 2: Local Coffee Shop Review...Jim's Beans

Jim's Beans
442 Battlefield Blvd S
Chesapeake, VA 23322

With the man in Louisiana, an essay to write and a hungry daughter, we headed out Jim's Beans this morning. It's located on Battlefield Blvd in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, VA.

Because I was up late last night studying for my history class, I thought I'd try a large Mocha at Jim's Bean. Please keep in mind that they consider their large a "grande." This can be confusing as their "grande" is much larger than the Starbuck's grande. The barista was pleasant and my coffee was ready pretty quick. There was an A LOT of espresso in it, so much so my husband noticed it over the phone afterwards. Even though I was stayed at the coffee shop a to go cup was used. I noticed this seemed to be the norm. My daughter chose an orange juice from the cooler and crumb cake. Price? not bad. Large mocha, Tropicana OJ, and crumb cake. Less than $8.

The atmosphere was wonderful, quiet but not too quiet. A local jazz station playing softly in the background (not bad, you know how I feel about local commercials) The cafe is split subtly into two areas, one section has two tables and the cafe, the other reminded my of a library. It's small but cozy. My daughter chose the table in the front by the door and went to town on her crumb cake. Her opinion? "It was goooood, so good."

I enjoyed my coffee. They use a local roaster, First Colony, and you could actually taste the coffee. I could have used one less shot of espresso, however I did like the extra energy this morning. While the coffee wasn't the best I've had, it was wonderful. I would definitely come back some time however not on Sundays because they are closed (hence the reason this was not the first place I reviewed.)
Jim's Beans wasn't terribly busy though where was a constant stream of customers. Everyone was so friendly. One couple started up a conversation with my daughter and just made her day. It's definitely a hidden treasure in Great Bridge.

Overall Review:
Atmosphere: Cozy, bright, pleasant. Perfect for writing my essay.
Coffee: Made perfectly but watch what size you order!!
WiFi: It took a bit to log on, and I don't even know what wifi I picked up. I'm not sure if it was theirs or someone else's. It worked though!
A's opinion: It was great!

Oo! This place sounds great! (I'm so craving coffee right now!)

I'm big on the exterior look before going to a place; and this place gets two thumbs up on that! (Plus, I love Jim Beam; so the name rocks!!)
