5316 Fairfield Shopping Center
Virginia Beach, VA
So after dropping my husband off at his truck this morning, the little one and I drove down to Jim’s Beans only to find them closed! They are closed on Sundays! Well that put a damper on my morning. From googling the internet during the last week I saw there was a coffee shop in Virginia Beach that I haven’t known about, Beach Brew. It was located on the opposite direction of my house but the only thing I have to do today is homework and from my last blog, you know what I usually do, procrastinate.
So I hopped on the bypass and shot down to Kempsville. After searching for Beach Brew, I finally found it hidden around the corner in the shopping plaza. If I hadn’t been looking for it, I never would have known it was there.

While inside Beach Brew it was very quiet, almost too quiet. They had a local radio station playing however the majority of the time I was in there it was commercials. There is a reason why I listen to Sirius radio, and being there reminded me of that. The employee behind the counter was also very quiet, too quiet. I ordered my usual that I get where ever I go. Café Mocha. While waiting for it to brew, my daughter and I checked out the food! And boy there was a lot of a selection. They serve breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Ice cream and bakery treats. The sandwiches, while looked good made this place smell more like a deli than a coffee shop. I usually go for the atmosphere and you know me, I LOVE coffee, the smell, the taste, etc.
Finally, my coffee was ready. It looked great. I splurged and had some whipped cream (shhhhhh don’t tell :) ) Taste? It was good, though a little too much mocha for my liking. In my opinion my coffee needs to take center stage and this was more like hot chocolate. The prices were decent, comparable to the dreaded Starbucks. My Tall Café Mocha was 3.25 + tax. While I was there, 3 additional customers came in. I’m sure it was the time of day but they were older. Maybe on a different day or time the younger crowd comes in.

Overall review:
Atmosphere – Nice, I liked the artwork, the placement of tables, chairs and couches. The con-the sandwiches reminded me more of a deli, not a coffee shop
Coffee – Though my drink was good, it wasn’t great. It’s not worth another trip back out for an espresso drink. Maybe someone who doesn’t like coffee but likes the fancier drinks; this would be the place for them.
WiFi - It kept kicking me off, not very productive for doing homework for an online class.
I may be back to try the drip coffee later in the year but for now it’s off to find the next café!
